Hybrid · 12 Weeks · Two Scheduling Tracks — Wed/Thu or Sat/Sun
Admission Requirement: All students enrolling in the Pharmacy Technician program must successfully pass a background check and a ten-panel drug test prior to beginning their externship. These requirements are standard for pharmacy employment and are necessary for externship placement at CVS Health and all approved pharmacy sites.
WMTC's Pharmacy Technician Hybrid Program is a 12-week program that blends hands-on in-person lab training with live online instruction — giving you the real-world skills and credentials to launch a pharmacy career without putting your life on hold.
Every Wednesday from 12:00–4:00 PM, you'll train in WMTC's Equip Human Solutions Career Skills Lab — a fully equipped, professional-grade pharmacy environment donated by CVS Health, complete with a CVS Mock Pharmacy Counter. Every Thursday from 5:00–8:00 PM, you'll join your cohort for live, instructor-led online classroom sessions covering pharmacology, pharmacy law, medication safety, and dispensing procedures.
Upon graduation, students are supported in securing externship placements and job opportunities through CVS Health — one of the nation's largest pharmacy employers — or at any pharmacy within WMTC's network of approved externship sites. Our team actively supports you through the externship experience and beyond, including job placement assistance.
Pharmacy technicians are integral members of pharmacy teams, providing essential support to licensed pharmacists. Their duties include assisting with dispensing medications, managing inventory, processing insurance claims, maintaining patient records, and providing customer service. Pharmacy technicians may also be involved in compounding medications and utilizing pharmacy software systems for prescription management. It's a high-demand, patient-facing role with strong career pathways across retail, hospital, and specialty pharmacy settings.
Pharmacy technicians are in demand across a wide range of healthcare settings.
WMTC offers two scheduling tracks so you can choose the days that fit your life. Both tracks cover the same curriculum, use the same lab, and are taught by the same instructor.
Track A — Wed/Thu: Wednesdays 12:00–4:00 PM · In-Person Hands-On Lab at the Equip Human Solutions Career Skills Lab (CVS Mock Pharmacy Counter). Thursdays 5:00–8:00 PM · Live Online Instructor-Led Classroom.
Track B — Sat/Sun: Saturdays 1:00–5:00 PM · In-Person Hands-On Lab at the Equip Human Solutions Career Skills Lab (CVS Mock Pharmacy Counter). Sundays 1:00–5:00 PM · Live Online Instructor-Led Classroom.
Both tracks meet twice per week for 12 weeks. The schedule is designed to be manageable for working adults and caregivers while delivering a rigorous, career-ready curriculum.
The Equip Human Solutions Career Skills Lab is a fully equipped, real-world pharmacy training environment donated by CVS Health and located inside WMTC's San Diego headquarters. Students train on actual pharmacy equipment, dispensing systems, and workflows used in professional pharmacy settings — including a CVS Mock Pharmacy Counter.
Graduates receive direct access to CVS Health externship placements and employment opportunities — giving you a clear, supported path from the classroom to a career. Students are also welcome to complete their externship hours at any pharmacy within WMTC's network of approved sites.
After completing your program requirements, you are eligible for a 120-hour externship at a CVS Health location or any approved pharmacy in WMTC's network. Our team actively supports you throughout the externship experience — from placement coordination to on-site check-ins.
WMTC's career services team also provides job placement assistance, resume support, and interview preparation to help you transition directly into employment after graduation.
Upon completing the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians), administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The ExCPT is nationally recognized and widely accepted by retail pharmacy employers, including CVS Health.
The exam covers practical dispensing skills, pharmacology fundamentals, pharmacy law and regulations, medication safety, and insurance and billing workflows — all of which are taught throughout the WMTC curriculum. Exam fee: $125 (not included in tuition).
